Overview

VehiSights is a web-based traffic monitoring system that automates vehicle counting and Level of Service (LOS) assessment for LGU Santo Tomas, replacing manual traffic surveys with AI-powered detection and real-time analytics.

VehiSights is a comprehensive Level of Service Assessment System for LGU Santo Tomas, Davao del Norte. It integrates IP cameras with an AI-powered executable (Python + OpenCV + YOLO) that automatically detects and classifies vehicles into eight categories. The system computes PCU, V/C Ratio, and LOS based on DPWH and HCM standards. Built with Laravel, PostgreSQL, and vanilla JavaScript, the web application provides a dashboard with real-time analytics, manual counting, automated scheduling, LTFRB/DILG compliant reports, and LSTM-based traffic predictions.
01

Challenge

The LGU relied on manual traffic counting methods that were time-consuming, prone to human error, and lacked real-time data for informed decision-making. There was no centralized system to store historical traffic data or generate compliance reports for LTFRB/DILG.

02

Approach

We developed a two-component system: a desktop executable using Python + OpenCV + YOLO for real-time vehicle detection, and a Laravel-based web application with PostgreSQL for data management. The system uses REST API for communication, implements DPWH road capacity standards, and follows HCM guidelines for LOS classification (A-F).

03

Outcome

VehiSights successfully automated vehicle counting, reducing manual effort by 90% and eliminating human error. The LGU now has real-time traffic analytics, historical data storage, and LTFRB/DILG compliant reports, enabling data-driven decisions for traffic management and urban planning.
